In his recently released book “Pass The Torch: How A Young Black Father Challenges the ‘Deadbeat Dad’ Stereotype” author Jamiyl Samuels shows the positive side of the Black family.
Through his own W.R.E.a.C Havoc Publishing imprint Samuels refutes the negative images propagated in the media about young Black men as irresponsible, violent, and ignorant.

“It is evident that the media tends to show Black men for the most part in a damaging light,” says Samuels, a contributor to TheUrbandaily.com. “And it most often correlates with Hip Hop and the messages in the music. I grew up on Hip Hop and I credit the art form with getting me through my tough times, so I wanted to show the positive influences of the music, film and sports as it relates to the urban kids that take part in, promote and ultimately advance these industries”.

“Pass The Torch” not only speaks on the author’s experience as the victim of an absentee father and his effort to break the cycle with his own son, it analyzes the theme of fatherhood in controversial films “Boyz N Da Hood”, “Menace II Society”, and “He Got Game”, gives his view on the real message behind ‘gangsta’ rap, illustrates how fatherhood impacts Hip Hop and the NBA, the current absence of the Black family sitcom and more.

“It’s never too late to be a father to a child or make amends with an absentee parent. The vital role of our fathers cannot be understated, but I show love to mothers that play both roles as well”.

“Pass The Torch” is available in paperback at Createspace.com (www.createspace.com/3566686), Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com and other independent retailers, as well as in e-book format for the Amazon Kindle.
