Mere hours after Nicki Minaj was officially named a new judge on American Idol came another story alleging beef between she and fellow new judge Mariah Carey.

A part of me thinks producers are feeding stories for the sake of drumming up interest in a still popular but very much fledgling show. Then again, as much as I love Mimi – lamb power, y’all – I can kinda see her not being happy about sharing the attention.

That said, TMZ reports:

Mariah Carey wasted no time proving what we told you 2 weeks ago — there’s only room for one diva on “American Idol.”

Carey and Nicki Minaj went at it during the first “A.I.” taping Sunday in NYC. When Nicki started critiquing a contestant, Mariah would interrupt — not once, but many times. Each time Mariah interrupted, Nicki fought back by loudly talking over Mariah.

One “A.I.” spy said Mariah and Nicki tried to cover their disdain for each other but everyone saw through it, adding, “These girls just don’t like each other.”

You may recall, we reported when producers called Mariah to tell her that Nicki would probably be joining her as a judge, she hung up the phone.

Not so says Mariah Carey (via People):

“How can we feud in two days? I think a feud takes a little longer,” Carey, who confirmed her participation on the show in July, told reporters at a press conference in New York on Monday, shooting down rumors of discord.

For her part, Minaj says she’s just happy to be there, telling reporters, “It’s wonderful, darling,” when asked how she liked being on the show so far.

Added Jackson: “We’re having fun, dude. We’ve been having a good time. There has been a lot of laughs.”

“It’s music,” said Carey. “It’s singing. It’s laughter.”
