Lance Gross’ rise to fame has included starring in several Tyler Perry movies and landing a role on Grey’s Anatomy. He credits his success and growth as an actor to his time at Howard University.

Lance recalls stepping on campus for the first time and feeling like he was home even though he was 2,000 miles away from his family. The University’s welcoming, family-like environment allowed Lance to flourish both as a student and an actor.

Despite being known as the shy kid, an “Intro to Acting” class provided him the opportunity to break out of his shell. It was this class that inspired Lance to focus on acting and really take the craft seriously.

According to Lance, a special bond unites and connects everyone in the HBCU community. Howard University cultivates a supportive, hands-on environment, with professors spending a lot of time outside the classroom nurturing the students and instilling within them the belief that success can be achieved through hard work and determination.

“Anything that you can dream, you can achieve with hard work,” says Lance.
