The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors returned on Monday night, honoring the most influential women in the game. Among the femcees feted during the evening were Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Salt-N-Pepa and the Queen B herself, Lil Kim.
Kim was honored with an incredible tribute featuring some of today’s up-and-coming female rappers. Teyana Taylor, Dej Loaf, Lil Mama, and more honored one of the most influential Hip-Hop artists of all time.
Twitter went crazy for the fantastic tribute, in which the female artists on stage did their best Lil Kim impersonations.
The tribute blew the doors off the Brooklyn venue, but excitement only increased when Puff Daddy made a surprise appearance to honor his old friend.
“What took us so long to honor our queens,” Diddy asked, adding, “I came here tonight to honor my sister, Lil Kim.”
Kim was visibly emotional, telling the crowd that Diddy’s presence was a surprise, saying, “He told me he wasn’t going to be to make it!” She continued to thank the many men and women who made her career possible, also turning to her fellow honorees, saying, “It’s an honor to be honored with you girls. I love you so much.”
The tribute ended with a birthday cake being rolled onto stage, as it was Queen B’s birthday after all. The audience then sang happy birthday for a humbled and honored Lil Kim.
