Capping off a successful 2016 — during which she released her critically acclaimed-album, A Seat at the Table, and debuted at no. 1 on the US Billboard 200 — Solange graced The Tonight Show stage last night (December 15) for one of her most dazzling performances yet.

Draped in an all-red ensemble connected to her two backup singers, Solo performed a “Rise / Weary” medley. The performance was accented by graceful and synchronized choreography with the support of a three-piece band comprising bass, piano, and drums.

Solange recently spoke with Helga Davis for Q2 Music and talked about the experience of creating her latest album:

“Working out how to develop those tools through my art and through the conversation of my music to where now I actually feel much better, much more equipped to have those conversations,” she said. “I actually had to go through the rage and the frustration and the mourning and the protest and the meditation through the album to get to the other side, to be able to have those conversations, no matter where I’m being targeted. I can stand firm in that and strong and with my shoulders and my head high.”
